ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Organization for Responsible Governance (ORG) is a non-profit organization that focuses on building solutions to legacy issues in The Bahamas, through working across sectors. This means we work with the government, private sector, nonprofit organizations & community groups, schools & everyday citizens to identify and solve big picture problems.

Responsible Governance is the foundation of a thriving democracy and a more prosperous future. The tenets of good governance: Accountability, Transparency, Integrity, Equality, Participation, and Rule of Law permeate society and affect everything from education quality to economic opportunity, crime levels to ease of doing business.

To create an environment that fosters and sustains greater economic and social opportunities for all Bahamians.

To promote the principles of good governance, while actively engaging government, citizens, the private sector and civil society.

OUR THEORY OF CHANGE

ORG focuses on the administering projects throughout The Bahamas that will:

1. Raise Awareness and Build Capacity of Bahamian Citizens through:

a. Conducting outreach programs and awareness campaigns to educate citizens about their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of accountable governance.

b. Providing training and capacity-building initiatives to empower citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to engage effectively in governance processes.

2. Facilitate Citizen Engagement through

a. Establishing platforms and mechanisms for citizen participation, such as public forums, town hall meetings, and online platforms.

b. Fostering inclusive and diverse participation by ensuring marginalized communities have a voice in decision-making processes.

c. Encouraging dialogue and collaboration between citizens, civil society organizations, private sector,  and government institutions.

3. Advocate for Transparent and Accountable Governance through:

a. Conducting research and policy analysis to identify gaps in governance processes and advocate for reforms that promote transparency and accountability across all sectors.

b. Engaging with policymakers, government officials, and relevant stakeholders to influence policy decisions and implement necessary reforms.

4. Monitor and Evaluate our Impact through:

a. Developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the organization’s impact on citizen participation and accountable governance.

b. Collecting data, measure progress, and continuously learn from experiences to improve strategies and interventions.

c. Sharing findings and lessons learned to contribute to the broader field of accountable governance and citizen participation.

5. Collaborate and Network through:

a. Forging partnerships with other civil society organizations, academia, and international bodies to build capacity, leverage resources, share best practices, and amplify the impact of collective efforts.

b. Participating in national and international networks and coalitions focused on promoting accountable governance.

By following this theory of change, ORG aims to achieve its mission of citizen participation for accountable governance, leading to increased transparency, improved accountability and effective government decision-making and spending in The Bahamas  and support greater social and economic opportunity for all.
