More than a dozen students from the University of The Bahamas (UB) have completed their participation in the second cohort of Be Clear Bahamas, a civic education initiative developed by the Organization for Responsible Governance (ORG) to strengthen transparency, accountability, and public engagement in national governance.
Political Theory 313 students took part in a series of targeted sessions focused on fiscal literacy, media literacy, and understanding the national budget.
Through the program, students gained practical insights into the development and management of public finances, learned to critically analyze media content, and explored the foundational role of civic participation in building effective, accountable institutions.
The program, funded by the Open Society Foundation, was originally piloted in 2024 with high school students at The Leadership Academy. It has since been expanded to include university-level cohorts, reflecting ORG’s commitment to equipping the next generation of Bahamian leaders with the tools to meaningfully engage in governance processes.
“We are proud to partner with the University of The Bahamas to bring the Be Clear program to the nation’s future leaders,” said Ari Wells, ORG Outreach Manager.
“Empowering young people with the knowledge and skills to understand and influence governance is critical to the advancement of transparency and participatory democracy in The Bahamas.”
ORG will continue to expand its civic engagement programming across educational institutions as part of its broader mission to build a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive Bahamas.
