The Organization for Responsible Governance (ORG) is proud to announce the successful completion of the pilot “Be Clear Bahama”s program with students from The Leadership Academy in Nassau.

The initiative, supported by the Open Society Foundations (OSF), is designed to empower the next generation of Bahamian leaders with essential skills in decision-making, media literacy, financial literacy, and critical thinking.

This program, led by ORG Engagement Office, Ariannah Wells, engaged students from The Leadership Academy in a transformative educational experience, culminating in impactful presentations focused on the New Providence Ecology Park.

Over the course of several weeks, students participated in a series of intensive training sessions, seminars, and site visits, all aimed at building their capacity to understand and influence key issues within their community. The program was designed not only to impart practical skills but also to inspire civic engagement and leadership.

One of the highlights of the program was a guest lecture by Governor of the Central Bank of The Bahamas,John Rolle, who shared his insights on financial literacy and the critical role of sound financial management in responsible governance. His session provided students with a deep understanding of how economic policies impact both local and national development, encouraging them to think critically about financial issues that affect their communities.

In addition to financial literacy, the program also covered media literacy and critical thinking, with sessions that equipped students to critically analyze information and understand the importance of transparent communication in governance. These skills were further developed through practical exercises and site visits, including a detailed exploration of the New Providence Ecology Park, where students learned about environmental management and sustainability practices.

The closing ceremony marked a significant milestone for the students, who presented their case studies on the New Providence Ecology Park. Their recommendations covered critical areas such as recycling, education, and environmental safety, showcasing their newly acquired knowledge and their ability to apply it to real-world challenges. The presentations highlighted the importance of transparent communication, community engagement, and accountability in decision-making processes—values that are central to ORG’s vision of fostering a more informed and active citizenry.

“Empowering our youth with the knowledge and skills to positively impact their communities is essential for building a better future for The Bahamas,” said ORG Assistant Director Steffon Evans.

“The Be Clear Bahamas program at The Leadership Academy is a testament to what can be achieved when young people are given the tools to engage critically with the world around them. We are incredibly proud of the students and their commitment to responsible governance.” added Ms. Wells.

The success of this initiative underscores the importance of educational programs that go beyond traditional classroom settings, offering students hands-on experiences that prepare them to be active, confident participants in their communities. ORG extends its deepest gratitude to the Open Society Foundations for their support in making this program possible, to the New Providence Ecology Park, and, most importantly, to The Leadership Academy for their partnership in fostering the next generation of Bahamians.

The Be Clear Bahamas program is a part of ORG’s ongoing efforts to engage citizens at all levels, promoting a virtuous cycle of education, engagement, and empowerment that drives accountable governance and sustainable development across the nation.
