Event Report

As part of COP4 of the Escazú Agreement, ORG Bahamas, in partnership with CANARI and The Nature Conservancy, hosted an official side event exploring public participation, access to information, environmental governance, and the role of civil society in advancing more inclusive and sustainable decision-making across the region.

The report and slide deck capture key themes, reflections, recommendations, and insights shared throughout the discussion.

This report builds on ORG’s 2023 Understanding Public Trust Public Consultation Report. Drawing on those findings, international research, and ORG’s own programme experience, this follow-up presents a practical framework for restoring public trust in The Bahamas.

We recommend reading it as a companion to ORG’s Understanding Public Trust: Public Consultation Report (2023). This paper translates those findings into a practical strategic framework for rebuilding public trust through civic engagement, collaborative governance, and democratic participation over the long term.

This position paper was developed through stakeholder consultations and engagement activities conducted as part of a project in partnership with the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC).

The paper reflects key perspectives, priorities, and recommendations raised throughout the process and was submitted to help inform the development of a broader regional position paper.
